Collision Repair is a Family Business for New CARSTAR Vermilion 

CARSTAR, North America’s largest premier network of independently owned and operated collision repair facilities is proud to announce the opening of CARSTAR Vermilion, located at 5118 Railway Avenue, Vermilion Alberta, T9X 1B5.

Lorena and Mike Donkin, owners of CARSTAR Vermilion, are a dynamic husband and wife duo, running this premier collision repair centre. Mike Donkin started working at the location in 1992, managing the facility and took it over in 2010, with his wife Lorena joining the team after the front office administrator retired.

“When we were looking at our options in joining networks, CARSTAR really was the only one we ever looked at because we just liked what they offered,” says Lorena, owner, CARSTAR Vermilion. “It was nice for us because we took on the facility from a wonderful family and it is quickly becoming a family business for us as well and CARSTAR happily supports that.”

Sons Brandel and Karsten Donkin are already participating in the business, with Brandel taking part in the registered apprenticeship program at CARSTAR Vermilion and Karsten showing a strong interest in cars. This 5,800 square foot facility is equipped to perform premier repairs to all makes and models, are aluminum ready and have plans to earn certifications in the near future.

“Families like the Donkin’s do not necessarily want to sell their business, but need to adapt to the changing industry climate,” says Mike Piper, western zone director, CARSTAR. “Being a part of a network like CARSTAR allows repairers to still locally own and operate their business, but with that added support of a network who provide the resources needed to keep them competitive in their community.”

Open to supporting Cystic Fibrosis Canada, the CARSTAR charity of choice, Lorena and Mike plan to help raise funds and awareness for this cause, while also continuing their support for local initiatives like sponsoring local curling clubs, hockey and baseball teams as well as fundraising for their church.
